From M6 junction 40, follow the signs to Ullswater, following A66, then A592. Drive all the way through Glenridding and turn left immediately after the Patterdale village sign. From M6 junction 36, head towards Windermere, then take the A592 over Kirkstone Pass (not recommended in winter conditions). Drive all the way through Patterdale and turn right immediately after the bridge on a right hand bend. If you pass the Glenridding sign, you've gone too far.

Follow the lane along the beck and all the way round to the left and through the narrow bit. The Old Smithy is last on the left of the row of cottages
